What used to be a warehouse in Amsterdam is now a stunning, modern home that has plenty of vintage home decor. Marloes Hoedeman is the owner of this 19th-century gem. The founder of Love Stories, a popular lingerie label, found inspiration in her brand and decided to match her home’s interior to the feminine yet tough spirit of her company. The result is flawless!

Marloes shares the home with Eric Bijlsman, her partner. The exterior of the building is all brick, four stories up, already giving this the feeling of a vintage home. However, the modest and self-assured outside of the home gives no clues to the incredible interior of their home. The high ceilings only add to the feeling of grandeur.

The living room boasts high white walls offset by shades of black and greenery with plants. A light gray sofa sits gently in the midst of it all, pulling the room together over a gray rug and the stylish wooden floors. The high ceilings give you the feeling of lots of vertical space, further emphasized by black-framed glass display cabinets and a long, reaching black chimney fireplace.

A short curved white wall hugs the stairs, matching the white brick walls that are a must for any vintage home interior. The couple had the interior stripped back to reveal this brickwork, which sits opposite the radial concrete staircase that goes from the main floor through the floor for the living and dining area and goes through the main bedroom to the children’s rooms. Black metal bars surround the staircase going up, where a plush camel sofa makes a statement over taupe carpeting.

Things get a bit more exotic in the kitchen area. A simple wooden table for eating is surrounded by modern white chairs, a patterned beige rug, and plenty of plants and greenery among the stainless-steel appliances and modern black utensil and appliance storage. Perhaps it’s the wicker plant basket and window shades or the sixties swivel chair that add to the vintage home interior feeling?

It’s the little touches that make this home so appealing. A drum used as a table by the comfy oatmeal-colored chair where the kids play. A shag carpet with alternating coffee and gray diamond shapes. Old-school framed vintage photos hanging on the brick wall, a staple of any vintage home. An older, fashionable swim suit framed behind glass and hung in the children’s room, the black framing matching the crib and a black bed canopy, adds a subtle nod to the past.

The home is a master class in vintage home decor meeting sleek, industrial style. Softer colors come through in comforting neutrals like beige, white, and gray, with lots of taupe and variations on tan and oatmeal. This balances out the harsher, more metallic elements that come through in the vintage home decor and other accents like furniture. Even the bathroom is a mixture of cold and warm in the best way possible.

Conclusion

Marloes mixed and matched her way to a beautiful home. Tough and soft, lived in but stylish, this home sets the standard for what an updated vintage home interior ought to look like and will be providing plenty of inspiration for homeowners in Amsterdam and around the world over.

Jersey Ice Cream Co was founded in the summer of 2010. Two kids in love found an old embossing stamp at a flea market, dreamed up a design empire, and then set to work trying to create it. Today Tara Mangini and Percy Bright spend their time moving house to house, job to job, leaving beautiful homes in their wake. They believe in craftsmanship, timelessness, and leaving things better than they found them. They do not make ice cream, but will happily have some if you’re offering.

There’s something about renovated and repurposed spaces that give them a character that easily comes out with the right interior inspiration. Vicki Wood’s space in Redfern is located in a building that used to house a factory, which means excellent bones and great lighting.

collection of thriving indoor plants
living room custom bookshelves

She transformed the space to reflect her personal aesthetic by building on the classic structure of the place, creating an apartment interior that expertly blends whites and darks with a cosmopolitan feel reminiscent of New York lofts. Dark and White Vintage anything usually comes with a dark, rich patina that can become overwhelming if vintage finds clutter up a room. Wood balances this out by using white as the main color for her walls, cabinetry, and even the linens. Even the imported range hood from Spain comes in a creamy white that balances out the look and feel of the dark wood kitchen table.

Custom Furnishings Wood worked on renovating the space with her brother who is a builder so bringing in personalized touches wasn’t hard to do. She introduced custom cabinetry, including the dark timber bookshelf that houses her eclectic collection of prints, books, vintage finds, and plants. Custom cabinetry was also installed in the kitchen, complete with a handpainted finish that she did herself.

Sprinkled all throughout the apartment are her vintage finds, from the vintage Bakelite desk lamp that illuminates her study to the 1960s scuba helmet that serves as an interesting accent in the living room.

Plants are also thoughtfully scattered throughout the space in unique and often vintage pots with their own unique histories. Aside from bringing in fresh air, the greenery add another touch of color to the space. The rustic wooden beams and vintage Spanish tiles installed as a backsplash behind the sink give a touch of organic warmth and depth to balance things out. Country-themed prints add to this warmth to give the space a truly lived-in look and feel. Despite the vast amount of vintage items and random objects that would normally not go together save for their age, the space remains bright, airy, and fully functional. With her flair for collection and styling Vicki Wood has managed to create a truly cosmopolitan loft-style look for her apartment while incorporating functionality with her vintage finds.

Paige and Smoot Hull met in Houston, Texas and were married in 2000. After having full careers in the modeling and restaurant industry, Paige and Smoot opened The Vintage Round Top with their first cottage, No. 1450, in the spring of 2012.  From urbanites looking to escape the city for a weekend getaway, to group or corporate retreats, to a honeymoon for the new bride and groom, or a must awaited family vacation, The Vintage Round Top gives you the opportunity to travel to a pastoral setting of Modern Vintage elegance for rest and rejuvenation.

The Vintage Round Top property is a boutique vacation home rental with a Modern Vintage style.No. 1450 is a 2400 sq. ft. industrial farmhouse with custom light fixtures, reclaimed woods, as well as one of a kind vintage finds. The house accommodates overnight stays for up to 7 guests.

Amazing Industrial Farmhouse For Rent in Round Top Texas 2

The Vintage Round Top grew organically from a casual Saturday drive with our three children in the Fall of 2011. That afternoon we stumbled across a farmhouse for sale in Round Top, Texas and decided to “live with intention” by stopping in to visualize our dream of owning a country home for our family. The realtor (Frank Hilbolt) educated us on the need for lodging during the Round Top Antique Fair. The town of 90 swells to 50,000-75,000 people twice per year, and lodging is in high demand. So, what seemed like an ordinary day, turned out to be the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.

Amazing Industrial Farmhouse For Rent in Round Top Texas 3

We took a leap of faith by purchasing and completely renovating the home in what became our signature Modern Vintage style – a blend of clean, modern lines with vintage touches. That style was not common in the area and garnered the attention of the press, which helped grow the lodging business into a lifestyle brand.

Our goal was to create a space that would be an inspiring backdrop for collaborations, photo shoots, and overnight guests.
We began to host our own workshops and retreats and love being a part of helping others grow and start new things – may that be learning a new skill, meeting a business partner, collaborator or lifelong friend at one our events, or spending time together at a team building retreat. To offer more lodging and full property rentals for these types of events, we are currently building two additional cozy cottages and outdoor spaces named after our three children: the Pierce, the Eisley and the Cameron Lounge.
Having our children be a part of this process from the beginning has been a blessing! We believe in hard work, following our passions, and going after our dreams. Our hope is they will find and follow whatever has been placed in their hearts and will use the road map we’ve shown them through this adventure along the way.
We’re truly humbled by the genuine reaction to our labor of love, and feel our pathway has been guided by God. We thank each and every one of you who have been interested in and supported our journey.

Rony Vardi’s life is surrounded with little things, such as her Williamsburg shop that started small and Catbird with all those sparkly gems, yet she’s filled with big ideas. Her animal-hybrid-named label founded in 2004 grew to be a huge success, now with an e-commerce site and a celebrity fan base. The jewelry line’s concept is very non-fussy. Vardi tells how she super hates fussy in every aspect, including her home.
Enter the Carroll Gardens house, a 1905 Brooklyn brownstone self-decorated and self-designed by Vardi in an undertaking that took two years to accomplish. The spacious four-bedroom, three-bath abode features the kitchen, living and dining room areas as one big, open space. The light and airy place is complemented by white walls, ceilings, and cabinetry with natural light passing through lovely glass doors and windows. Step outside the French doors, and you’ll be greeted by a large Astroturfed yard where her two children love to play barefoot and carefree.
Catbird Founder's Brooklyn Brownstone Home 2

Vardi’s interiors cradle antique furniture, well-worn vintage rugs, unique creations mostly flea market art, and plenty of hanging plants which blend perfectly together in a casual, breathable environment. A few rooms have been built with reclaimed wood while some have white flooring, with simple materials like brick, marble and brass mostly used throughout the house. It’s comfortable, warm and easy just like how she wants it to be. The entire stairway is lined with a tremendous bookshelf, all in white and in a style similar to the kids’ double deck bed frame alongside a book case.

Catbird Founder's Brooklyn Brownstone Home 3

Typically, it takes around 20 years for a house to look homely and lived-in, and she didn’t want to wait. She adores when things look old over time, and not the ‘fake old’ type, and so the place is filled with valuable family-owned pieces. The kitchen sink was derived from her mom’s garage while the zebra chair situated by the stairs once belonged in the original Catbird shop. In the living room, which Vardi refers to as the family’s rec room, sits the Eames lounger owned by her husband during his younger years.

Vardi often advises her clients to not be overly precious with their jewelry and safekeep only for special events, rather live with the beautiful things everyday. This is seen in her bath area, where every corner is pretty much alive. Un-lacquered brass fixtures grace the personal sanctuaries, which quickly started to elicit a rustic look and feel. Overall, the house thrives with its tiny yet substantially visual elements. The Catbird founder compares the charming yet far from perfect home to her business, a process and work in progress.

vintage Scandinavian apartment with character

A bit of splash and a combo of vintage furniture and custom design can always turn even the most drab of living areas into comfortable and roomier spaces. The interior décor of the Scandinavian home depicted here below, lends credence to this statement. The result of the uplift transformed the living spaces from drab cramped rooms to well-lit, functional and beautiful areas. Functionality is a key theme here and every room, the dining area included, are huge on functional décor that is beautiful and accommodating.

The living room, by far the focus of the home, now has well-scrapped wood flooring, partially covered by a thick rug with a simple design and a collection of vintage furniture. The said furniture consists of a simple sofa whose design and colors, contrast well to capture the essence of this whole living area. The windows however, remain the highlight of this living room. Their opulence does ensure the room gets adequate natural light and as such, appears bright and even roomier than it actually is.

The functionality of the living room, another concern of the owners, is evident from the other additions and improvements available. The floor to ceiling bookcase for instance, serves as a mini study and houses the home’s supply of firewood. The dark wood, industrial lamps and additional furniture from the gone era further accentuate the ambiance here. The result is lighter and airier décor that draws even more beauty from brass and marble additions.

The home that the owners say had no character at first, now boasts of a functional kitchen with a new sink and decent shelving to take in utensils while accentuating the overall beauty of this cooking area. Moreover, it too benefits from the adequate lighting made possible by the opulent windows. The combination of matching tiles, white cabinetry and the white hue on the wall does help make it as bright as it possible can be.

The home has a kitchen, dining room and living room on the lower level and two bedrooms on the upper region. The staircase that joins these two areas is stark contrast of the rooms in both levels. The glass and wood combo on this staircase gives a futuristic appeal that is both beautiful as it is appropriate. The artwork that dons the walls, only add to an already classy taste that seemingly took some thinking.

Making a beautiful living space and more so from an old construction sometimes is never easy. In most instances though, remodeling processes that aim to create such beauty only need to concentrate on bringing the character to light…like the owners of this apartment did.

A New Orleans Shotgun Duplex with Vintage Charm

Most homeowners want their homes to be an embodiment of their character. New architectural designs or remodeling projects as such, often borrow a lot from the traits that these homeowners consider innately authentic. This perhaps is the reason Breeze Braunschweig and Lauren Wells’ 1600 square foot abode in New Orleans screams of vintage charm with a dash jazz, which is fittingly apt considering the rich musical heritage of Crescent City.

Initially featuring a double shotgun design, the house now brags of bohemian warmth following a remodeling exercise that simply brought down built out closets, leaving in its wake, authentic and textured brick walls, resurfaced ceilings and repointed chimneys. The result is almost mythical, like a scene from a movie set in the eras long gone. Décor and furnishing is a subtle combination of flea market gems, Craigslist listings and old era pieces of furniture that bring to life, a sense of happiness, warmth and even romanticism.

The shotgun duplex looks great on the outside, especially the color play that combines blue, yellow, some bit of white and pink hue. The furnishings on the living rooms are minimalist but very creative. Take the room-long church pew for instance; it is authentically south but very creative in its positioning. This combined with the comfortable opposing sofa with its colorful serape cover and round coffee table complete the furniture set in this living area. The handwoven rug and the hanging artwork on the wall, create a vintage charm that these two homeowners sought to bring to life.

While all the other rooms still feature the bare brick walls, the living room has gleaming white walls that make the most of the colorful textile draperies, furnishing s and artwork. This brightness enhances the shiny nature of these pieces of décor. The living room also features a retro-style player whose color blends so well with the overall vintage look that characterizes the house.

Every side of the duplex shotgun houses two bedrooms, each with an antique metal bed with very cozy bedding. The highlights of these bedrooms however are the combination of their old era fireplaces and the reclaimed barn doors that add a sense of style while maintaining the overall vintage scheme. This is so especially because the old era bedding in the bedroom and the towel holds, paint a scene of generations long gone.

Fixtures in the kitchen are in keeping with the overall scheme. The O’Keefe and Merritt gas range from the 1950s dominates the cooking area while a SMEG refrigerator completes the opposite wall. These oldies do complement the barn-style outdoor chairs that populate the eating area.

There is a lot to love about this duplex shotgun. Importantly though, is its simple design, unique reclaimed fixtures and brilliant use of features like sliding doors that really save on space. This home is simply inspirational.

The Unmatched Interior Design Taste of a Perfumer

Everybody loves the new and modern stuff. However, there are a few special ones, who take the old things, and give them a whole contemporary makeover. This is in the case of one renowned perfumer, Holladay Saltz, who lives in Harlem, New York. Holladay lives with the husband, Sam Saltz, and their 1900s brownstone house is 780-square foot big, with an unmatched interior design.

From ruins to elegance

Holladay is a high school teacher, and a perfumer, who applies the aspects of her career to her home interior design. As she manually blends various scents to come up with the perfect perfumes, Holladay ensures that the house is friendly enough to her work, and family as well.

Even though the house seems small, the couple enjoys life with their cat, and you can notice the décor options, along with the spectacular taste of art.

Most of the artwork around the house look elegant because of Holladay’s efforts. For instance, the Otomi fabric that hangs on the wall were washed and restored by Mrs. Saltz.

Working/study environment

Holladay runs her perfumery from the house, and the environment is conducive enough to make things easy. She has a dedicated desk in the house, which allows her to hand-mix her perfumes at any given time. There are three large and curved windows in the living room, which allow natural light to flow in the house. This is also an advantage for Mrs. Saltz working space.

A desk is also included just across the bed, and either Holladay or her husband uses it as an alternative workspace, especially for paperwork stuff. There is also a bookshelf from IKEA, and they have plenty of books stacked on it.

A welcoming ambiance

Mr. and Mrs. Saltz have a stylish dining area, where they invite some of their friends once in a while. The living room is also chic, especially with the bay windows and the cozy sofas, which add luxury to the room.

Also, as she blends her sweet perfumes, the house is filled with a unique and romantic smell, which is a top priority of the perfumer.

A functional-based blend

You will notice a touch of various styles all around the house. As Holladay points out, every furniture and décor in the house are functional in a way. For instance, the entryway also acts as a kitchen island, especially when they have many guests in the house. The IKEA bookshelf blends perfectly with the rustic walls and the modern furniture.

The bedroom has enough storage spaces in the closets, which have large and dark-brown wood doors. The white-themed bed helps to balance the bedroom and make it cozy enough. Their kitchen also seems small and basic, but the blue theme and spaciousness are what draws attention to it. She has also included a shelf for her cookbooks. This is a house that is perfectly designed and styled by a true perfumer. Anthony D'Argenzio's East Village Home

Sometimes when you try to reform your small space, it may seem that if you add to the decor your space just gets congested. Let us introduce to you to this exquisitely creative project that will embolden you to just go in for that small space makeover. This ingenious renovation created more space and luxuriously laid out areas for everyday activities, from reading and working to cooking and relaxing.

Anthony D’Argenzio’s single bedroom East Village home which he shares with his fiancee and their dachshund is a perfect small space. However, it was not always so- it lately got an immense recreation! The embellished furniture made this small space feel even more compact. And you will be more than pleasingly surprised by this tiny apartment’s big makeover!

Yes, you will hardly believe it is the same little space! From the bare-brick white walls to the rope-covered and the small bar nook, the transformation gives the space an airy and light feel, with just the perfect touch of warmth and hospitality. So wondering what makes this small space transformation so exhilarating?

Well, just because you are staying in packed quarters does not imply you cannot think lofty! This remodel took into consideration the value of curating and customizing of shelves, organizing, and removing unused items. Now the more spartan brighter organization seems astutely arranged rather than a reconsideration. Anthony used mirrors to make his tiny space feel bigger as mirrors not only offer a semblance of depth but they also add a spark of allurement.

Even though Anthony’s kitchen is small, he eliminated the dividing wall between the living room and the kitchen to spawn an open one-person bar. Hate it or love it, open shelves make the kitchen look grand. And that is what Anthony did- open shelving and an extensive subway tiled white wall made his kitchen look double the size.

Clean-lined modernized furniture added fluidity and made his room seem larger. He made sure to offset with cozy seating, warm area rugs, and soft furnishings. If you too need to appoint activity spaces in a small room, use those nooks and corners, go ahead and arrange a craft play table, table, or office. You just need a classic decorating approach to create small centers that seem both utilitarian and cozy.

So devote your space to what is important to you- whether it is coffee station, a plant grow room, or a reading spot. This will make you love your house that much more- just like Anthony D’Argenzio’s East Village home.

Cozy Factory Hall Home

If you’re a fan of vintage, then you’re going to love this house design. More than a decade ago, this was just an empty factory hall with old floors, deteriorated electricity power system and squared off arc windows. It was one of the abandoned architectural jewels in Southern Germany, waiting to be discovered. The building’s two spacious, empty floors offer a huge field for creativity. I’m really happy that its new owners, Petra and Eddie, have managed to give it a good use.

Today, this Factory Hall house is a great illustration of the modern shabby chic style. Over the past years, Petra and Eddie were collecting vintage furniture. The tables, desks and cabinets were repainted several times, until the collector’s items ended being in a monochrome color scheme. Every little detail has been thought about.

The house looks a little bit old-fashioned from the outside. Its walls have a raw brick texture painted white. The brick wall texture can be also seen in one of the interior walls. On the other hand, that gives this house a unique touch and reminds us that this wonderful place once was a factory.

Inside, you’ll find an inviting living room, also used as a reception room for Petra’s clients. She designed the room on a way that it serves as a great backdrop for photo shoots. Large arc windows provide lots of sunlight, which is a dream made true for any photographer.

The interior furniture doesn’t have a unified style, but every piece combines harmonically thanks to their color pattern and vintage style. Colors are white for the walls, floor and ceiling. The biggest pieces of furniture, like the main dining table, the carpet and shelves are in light brown tones. The smallest ones, like the chairs and the cozy table stand are dark brown, almost black. Petra is particularly in love with industrial furniture. She loves pieces that have scratches, marks of use, pieces that have a story behind them. For example, the daybed in the little conservatory was her 14 year old daughter’s cot bed.

You can find Petra’s personal office in a little extension they made of metal. That conservatory feels cozy thanks to the combination of its black painted metal wall, lots of natural light, coming from the huge windows and the wooden table, made in raw wood. As soon as you climb the wooden minimalistic stairs, you’ll notice that the second floor feels slightly different than the first one. Its smooth, snow-white walls, ceiling and floor are contrasting with several dark details such as a chair, a monochrome painting and a couple of black door handles. That contrast gives the second floor an incredibly spacious feeling. There you can find the TV room, bathroom, bedrooms and Eddie’s office.
